University of Maine at Augusta

UMA transforms the lives of students of every age and background across the State of Maine and beyond through access to high-quality distance and on-site education, excellent student support and civic engagement, and innovative professional and liberal arts programs. In addition to its main campus in Augusta, UMA also serves students at its campus in Bangor and through UMA Centers around the state. With its multiple locations and long-term expertise in online and distance learning, UMA is recognized for its success working with adult students, many who are veterans. Faculty/staff understand the unique challenges of these students, who often need to juggle family and work responsibilities while attending college.

Why you should attend?

UMA supports military and veterans with a full time Director in addition to the School Certifying Official. This single point of contact can help navigate student veterans' transition into higher education. Building personal relationships between UMA and veterans is a significant factor in retention and success. UMA has designated physical space on both the Augusta and Bangor campus; it is prime real estate, central to all foot traffic, and provides a safe space for military/veterans to build comradery on university grounds. The sense of community is felt by our military/veterans as well as the faculty/staff that support them.
