The University of North Carolina, the oldest public institution of higher education in the United States, offers 71 bachelor’s, 107 master’s, and 74 doctoral degree programs in the College of Arts & Sciences and 13 separate professional schools. Carolina is a Research One institution and is considered a “Public Ivy.” It is a member of the Association of American Universities. UNC has been accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges since 1900 and is also accredited by over 30 programmatic and professional organizations via its various professional schools and graduate programs. Carolina’s faculty and alumni include 9 Nobel Prize laureates, 23 Pulitzer Prize winners, 51 Rhodes Scholars, a U.S. President, a U.S. Vice President, 38 state Governors, 98 members of the United States Congress, and nine Cabinet members.

Why you should attend?

Carolina has a fast-growing military community supported by the Carolina Veterans Resource Center (CVRC). The CVRC provides programming to veteran and military students, as well as university staff, designed to meet the specific needs of the population and their families. This includes the Boot Print to Heel Print student success program, our chapter of the Student Veterans of America, Green Zone training to help faculty and staff better serve military-connected students, the Red, White & Carolina Blue graduation program, and wellness and community-building events including academic and professional workshops throughout the year. Carolina funds through all GI Bill Chapters, is part of the Yellow Ribbon Program, and offers Military Tuition Assistance and North Carolina National Guard Tuition Assistance. All told, the CVRC currently supports over 1100 veterans, active-duty members, reservists, National Guard members, and ROTC cadets.
