Grounded in the liberal arts and sciences, the Elmira College Criminal Justice program is an interdisciplinary major incorporating not only Criminal Justice courses, but also a choice of courses in Human Services, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology. As part of this well-rounded approach, Criminal Justice courses address both the theoretical and the applied, preparing Elmira College students for a variety of career options, from law school and graduate school, to employment opportunities such as correctional or police work at local, state and federal levels.
Through the Elmira College Political Science program, students learn about the interaction of people, institutions, governments, and states; how elected officials achieve office; how laws are made; how and why states and other agents in the international system interact with each other; how and why wars happen; how we can facilitate international cooperation; and why governments are necessary. Students completing the Elmira College Political Science program, whether as majors or minors, often go on to study law or to the further study of politics in graduate school.
An Elmira College education in finance ensures students have a solid understanding of the concepts and tools needed to identify market trends, analyze impact, and design solutions in a variety of situations and organizations. The College’s state-of-the-art finance trading room allows students to use their financial skills in a real-world setting, with the same software finance professionals use on Wall Street. Students are well prepared for careers in investment management, financial analysis, insurance and risk management, real estate management, and corporate and financial institutions management.
